During our three years at BRHS, Darlene and I were neighbors and close friends. I remember her mom making hot chocolate for us on cold mornings before school. We spent our summers "giggling", going to the movies, and swimming at the City Park pool. We discovered Chef Boyardee's pizza and often made one after swimming. We ate lots of burgers, fries, and malts at Ligget's and played the jukebox.

I moved away soon after graduation and regrettably we lost touch. She died sometime between 1965 and 1967 from a brain tumor. Whenever I hear Petula Clark's "Downtown", I always remember those summers with Darlene. heart
